Amazon tests palm-reading scanner in Whole Foods

 
 

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is rolling out palm-reading devices in their Seattle Whole Foods locations, almost two years after acquiring the high-end grocery chain for $13.7 Billion USD. This new technology, branded Amazon One, requires a phone number, credit card — and the palm of your hand. As palms have uniquely identifying signatures, it promises a future where physical cards and even digital wallets are no longer required. Although details are not yet clear, Amazon insists that an account will not be needed to use the service. Previous examples of such innovation have been seen with one-button checkout, as well as Amazon Go — a technology that enables one to simply walk into a location, pick up items, and walk out.
